About the Institute

S.U. Umarov Physical-Technical Institute of Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Tajikistan has been established in 1964. It has been actived in solving a number of basic research and applied problems of Nuclear Physic, Solid State Physic and Semiconductors. .

The Nuclear Research Group was involved in basic research and also works on applied problems of Nuclear Physic. In collaboration with P.N. Lebedev Institute of Physic of the formed USSR Academy of Sciences and a number of other institutes it takes part in the studies of the interaction of Cosmic-ray particles with nuclei of different elements at high and superhigh energy levels, this Project is khown as the "Pamir" Experiment. The Group worked on probing depisits of useful minerals with mu-mesons of Cosmic origin.

The laboratories of Semiconductor Physic, Quantum Electronics, Cryogenic Optical Acoustic and X-ray diffraction analysis investigated physical properties of solids.

The works on the grow of monocrystalls using different crystallization methods were carried out. The new range of types of monocristalls have been grown having piezoelectric, ferroelectric, luminescent properties.

Injection lasers based on semiconductor compounds have been developed, they were wide applied in medicine. Laser spectroscopy of combination light scattering was used to study the electic-optical properties of the crystalls. In the field of inpurity electric conductivity the anisotropy of electric properties of composite semiconductors has been sdudied. The production technologies of range of semiconductor devices like termistors and diodes have been developed.

Under common supervision of academician A.A Adkhamov rearchers of Theoretical Physics Section worked on problems of Molecular Physics, such as irreversible processes in Condensed Media, phase transitions and critical phenomena, the acoustic properties of molecular and liquid crystalls and spectroscopic properties of polymers.

At present time in the Institute are operated next laboratories:

The Academician A.A. Adkhamov International Fund has been established in the Institute. The main goal of the Fund is promotion the development in the field of natural sciences and supporting of inerests of scienticts in Tajikistan.

The number of International projects under supporting ISTC and other international organisations are being implemented by the Institute.
