Laboratory of the physical acoustic of S.U. Umarov Physical-Technical Institute of the Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Tajikistan was established in 1977. The laboratory is engaged in experimental studies of structural changes in natural (rocks) and structural (composites) materials, including the study of mechanical fracture process and phase transitions. The main methods and tools used in research are the acoustic emission (AE) technique (two-channel AE signal acquisition system – PCI-2, USA), X-ray diffractometry (DRON-3, USSR), thermogravimetry (Paulik-Paulik-Erden derivatograph system, Hungary) and electron microscopy (JSM-35, Japan).
